The Sole Guide

The sole decides how a shoe grips, feels and lasts.

Our family has worked with soles and rubber for over 40 years, so we take this part seriously. The right sole changes how a shoe feels underfoot, how it grips the ground and how well it performs over time.

Types of Soles

Leather sole dress shoe
01 / Leather Sole

Leather Sole

The traditional choice. Slim, refined and built to age beautifully.

A sole cut from vegetable-tanned leather, slim and elegant, that breathes and gradually moulds to your step. It is quiet underfoot and gives the shoe a clean, refined line. It needs more care in wet conditions, but it can be resoled many times over.

Rubber sole shoe
02 / Rubber Sole

Rubber Sole

Built for everyday life.

Rubber gives reliable grip, resists water and wears slowly, so you can walk confidently through everyday conditions. It is slightly less breathable than leather, but its durability and dependable traction make it an excellent choice for daily wear.

TPR thermoplastic rubber sole
03 / TPR Sole

TPR Sole

Lightweight comfort with reliable everyday grip.

Thermoplastic rubber is flexible, water-resistant and capable of being moulded into clean, detailed tread patterns. It feels light from the first step and performs well for everyday use. It is less resistant to extreme heat than natural rubber, so prolonged exposure to direct heat should be avoided.

EVA foam sole shoe
04 / EVA Sole

EVA Sole

The lightest option, made for soft and easy movement.

EVA is a lightweight foam that cushions every step, absorbs impact and flexes easily. It is an excellent choice for long days on your feet. Over time, the foam gradually compresses, making it better suited to relaxed everyday wear than extremely heavy use.

Studded rubber sole
05 / Studded Rubber

Studded Rubber Sole

Elegance above. Extra traction underneath.

A slim rubber sole with small studs set into the surface. It keeps the neat, low-profile appearance associated with a leather sole while adding dependable grip in wet conditions. It is an ideal middle ground between refinement and everyday traction.

Chunky lug sole boot
06 / Lug Sole

Lug Sole

Deep traction for rougher ground.

A thick rubber sole with deep, wide treads designed for traction. It grips wet, uneven and loose ground, absorbs impact and gives a shoe a stronger, more rugged character. It is heavier than a slim sole and is particularly well suited to boots and outdoor wear.

Natural cork shoe footbed
07 / Cork Footbed

Cork Footbed

Natural cushioning that becomes more personal with every wear.

Cork is a natural material harvested from the bark of the cork oak. It is lightweight, cushions each step and absorbs moisture, helping the interior of the shoe stay fresher. Over time it gradually moulds to the shape of your foot, so the shoe feels increasingly personal the longer you wear it.
